One of the strangest stories submitted to extremeironing.com, a bunch of ironing fans take their boards to a nudist beach in the States for a new kind of extreme ironing.

Zoar Valley NYis an area on the Cattaraugus Creek near Gowanda NY where the creek goes through a deep gorge with towering cliffs. From the cliff tops to the creek bed it's about 500 feet. The area we chose for our New Years Day ironing, is in the summer a nude beach or nudist area.
Our team, Geoff Moist, Mary Stowell and myself, John Stoneman, chose to do an ironing photo shoot with me dressed as "Baby New Years".
The idea was Mary's, and she also made the costume. In our outdoors group, Mary's nickname is "Hard-Core Mary".
We approached the canyon from the top and needed to use ropes and harnesses to rappel or climb down Knife Edge Ridge, a somewhat "extreme" feat in itself.

Fortunately the week before, the water was warm and even being the first of the year in Western New York, there was not much snow.
Our choice of Ironing equipment consisted of an ironing board (a REAL wooden board) from the 1940's, and an iron from the 1950's.

The air temps on this day hit a high of 32F (0C) and the water temp was just 34F. Just above freezing. We staged the ironing session right at the waters edge, on what is know as "Blue Boat Beach" AKA "The Nude Beach" at Zoar.

... AND since this is, after all a nude beach ...

This may have not been the highest elevation ever, or underwater (although I DID infact take a "dip" in the ice-cold nearly frozen water), but considering our rappell down the cliffs to reach this spot and then ironing as Baby New Years (On New Years Day) and then, finally NUDE on the nude beach (in FREEZING TEMPS)... THIS was an extreme ironing event!
