A super-fit runner has established a new distance record for running with an ironing board on his back by completing the 155 mile Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara Desert.

The founder of extreme ironing, Phil ‘Steam’ Shaw, has come out of retirement to take on a new challenge: extreme ironing the Hastings Half Marathon, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice in Hastings.

It took us a bit by surprise here at the Extreme Ironing Bureau (which has been in a kind of stasis for a while), but a British man has re-ignighted the nation's interest in extreme ironing by ironing on one of the UK's busiest motorways.

In a rather bizarre twist, extreme ironing is set to feature in a new computer game on the Wii platform: Wacky World of Sports. It's odd because, the idea of extreme ironing is to take ironing outdoors. Now, as part of a new game from Sega, out later this year, you can pretend to ironing outdoors, whilst indoors. Anyway, I'm sure it's heaps of fun.

A British team of extreme ironists have snatched the record from under the noses of the Antipodean rivals to claim the world record for the most people ironing under water at the same time, with 86 pressed their garnments in Gloucestershire.
